Frequently Asked Questions
Augmentation Mammaplasty
Augmentation mammaplasty (breast enlargement) is performed to increase breast size and/or fix breast asymmetry. Candidates include women who want larger breasts, and those who want to restore the breast volume often lost as a result of pregnancy or significant weight loss. Breasts can be enlarged with implants or by fat transplantation. Augmentation mammaplasty is not a substitute for mastopexy, which is a procedure to “lift” breasts that sag significantly.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift, can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat and skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids. The procedure can also tighten eyelid muscles and tissue. A blepharoplasty is performed to improve a patient’s peripheral vision by lifting droopy eyelids, or strictly for cosmetic reasons.
Facelift
Over time, gravity and sun exposure take their toll on the face and neck. Deep creases that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth appear; the jawline slackens; and the neck develops loose folds and fat deposits. A facelift (rhytidectomy) counteracts these signs of aging by tightening muscle, removing fat and trimming excess skin, giving the face a fresher, more youthful look
Reduction Mamaplasty
Women who are unhappy about having large breasts and/or want to treat symptoms such as back pain breathing problems and poor posture, may benefit from reduction mammaplasty (breast reduction), during which fat, glandular tissue and skin are removed from the breasts. The resultant smaller breasts increase patient comfort, and look more in proportion to the rest of the body.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed. During a rhinoplasty, the surgeon is able to reshape, reduce or augment a patient’s nose to improve appearance.
A rhinoplasty may be performed as a reconstructive procedure to correct a birth defect, a repair surgery to remedy an injury like a broken nose, or simply for cosmetic reasons. Sometimes the procedure is performed in conjunction with endoscopic sinus surgery for patients with ongoing sinusitis or with a septoplasty, a procedure to correct a deviated septum. In these cases, the operation effectively treats health and breathing problems, as well as improving the patient’s appearance.
