Using Your Fat to Your Advantage

Carefree model wearing pure pink lingerie with big breastsIt may be hard to think of an advantage to having a bit of extra fat on your body – but what if that fat could be relocated to a place where it could do some good? That’s what a fat transfer procedure is all about!

How Is a Fat Transfer Performed?

The idea is really quite clever – fat is taken from one area of the body where it’s not wanted, such as the lower back, hips, thighs, or abdomen, and transferred to the buttocks or the breasts, where you want more volume. The fat is removed using liposuction, a minimally invasive procedure. Small incisions are made, and a thin tube is inserted and moved around to loosen excess fat. The fat is then suctioned out, purified, and injected into the new location.

There are many benefits to this technique for augmentation. There are no worries about the patient having a bad reaction, since the fat is from their own body. The outcome is very natural looking, although it can take up to a year to see the final results. However, one disadvantage is that over time the body will reabsorb part of the fat and some of the initial fullness may be lost. And, it should be noted that liposuction is not a way to lose a lot of weight; it is just a way to remove small pockets of fat.

In addition to being used to augment the buttocks, fat transfer is often the technique used for women who would like to have bigger breasts but aren’t looking for a dramatic increase in size. Fat transfer and implants can be used together to give a woman the look she wants.

After a fat transfer procedure, you may have some soreness, bruising, tenderness, and swelling. You should be in good overall health and, as always with a cosmetic procedure, have realistic expectations as to the outcome.
